Introducing Coriandolo Radio

Coriandolo Radio (CR) enables electronic devices to exchange data wirelessly. For many applications it’s a low-cost, open-source alternative to Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. CR is a point (Base) to multi-point (Sensors) architecture.

We sell our open hardware directly online to anyone. Our easily solderable component-on-a-PCB has FCC modular approval for unlicensed operation of CR. Our open-source software is license-free and available free online to anyone.

Why We Made Coriandolo Radio

CR allows ultra low-power sensors (1.8 V, 2.6 µA) and high-speed bulk data transfer (64 Kbytes @256 kbps), via walk-by / drive-by / drone-by. CR modules (ARM Cortex M0 + 2.4 GHz radio) start at $5, if you manufacture from our blueprint, and $10 if purchased from us. The big picture comprises infrastructure networks, mobile devices, cloud services, and sensors, but the sensor is the tail that wags the dog. For a simple sensor CR is a one-part solution. CR hardware runs your software application, seamlessly integrating the CR protocol. In a nut, the designer has total control of the hardware, software, and both sides of the communication protocol, base and sensor.

A 3rd party module or a proprietary protocol compromises the reliability, durability and independence of a design. So CR is completely open. It's free to use, there is no private regulatory agency, no association to join, no NDAs to sign, nothing to overnight, no minimum quantity obligations, no opaque interfaces, no trade secrets, no-one else's closed software, no branding restrictions, no illiterate documentation, and no-one to say you-can't-do-that (Editor's note: individual experiences of all this may vary and might be better than ours have been).

If you like CR as it is, our modules have FCC modular approval and are directly available from us online. Your simple sensor prototype is weeks away. If you want to customize it all then be our guest. Either way we're available to help, at your request.

Coriandolo Radio Fits a Wide Range of Applications

PIPELINE INTEGRITY

64seconds developed the CR protocol to monitor vibrations on a pipeline network. CR pipeline sensors are ultra low-power and send  64 Kbytes of data to a drive-by CR base. An iPad/iPhone app analyzes sensor data and maps the locations of broken pipes and pipes with abnormal continuous flow. Read More →

A Night At the Museum

Small, thin CR sensors are concealed in the wall behind each painting and sense temperature, humidity, proximity, and vibration. The sensor transmits its status to a concealed CR base unit, which sends real-time sensor data and alerts to anywhere, via a cloud server.

Where's My Luggage?

A keyring CR sensor is placed in a luggage item and periodically transmits the owner’s name and contact information when not in the air. A CR base unit connected directly to a phone can identify thousands of bags (sensors) in a lost luggage facility, sending a message to each owner immediately.

Optimal Irrigation

CR sensors monitor an orchard, detecting soil humidity, evaporation, barometric pressure, temperature, light conditions, and leaf health. Other CR sensors are connected to irrigation valves. A drone carrying a CR base unit collects data from the orchard sensors and sends instructions to the irrigation sensors, enabling optimal use of water.
